The Challenge

A heritage school looking to the future

Having joined the Star Academies family, Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School (BRGS) needed to refresh their visual identity.

The school needed a modern, visually commanding brand that resonated with pupils, staff, parents, and partners. It was important to be versatile; inclusive of both this exciting new change in their community, and their existing reputation for academic excellence.

The Solution

A brand with personality and purpose

The key was creating a completely new visual language across all touchpoints, from signage and uniforms to digital communications and stakeholder engagement.

We redesigned the existing logo with a bespoke take on the school’s longstanding mascot – instantly recognisable symbols for their existing community to balance tradition with energy, giving BRGS its own unique identity within the Star Academies network.

Print & Stationery: Prospectuses for both the main school and sixth form, stationery packs, compliment slips, and digital letterheads.

On-Campus Branding: School signage, wayfinding systems, lanyards and ID cards, values posters, and culture boards.

Marketing & Communications: Exhibition banners, stakeholder engagement documents, PowerPoint decks, and full brand guideline packs.

Digital & Social: Social media assets and templates, ensuring the school could communicate confidently online.

Merchandise & Visibility: Flags, vehicle livery, and a range of branded items including bags, water bottles, mugs, and notepads.

The Outcome

A cohesive identity, embraced by the community

The new BRGS brand has given the school a contemporary identity while still staying true to its famous heritage. From the prospectus in a parent’s hand to the banners displayed at events, the brand reinforces BRGS’s values, prestige, and its position as an educational provider of choice. Consistency across every channel strengthens recognition and pride, both within the school and across the wider Star Academies trust.
